WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police says they rescued a 31 year old woman from a pit bull attack Wednesday night.
Officers responded to the 1200 block of Spofford Circle around 10 p.m. after receiving a 911 call from a neighbor, who had also been bitten.
Officers say when they got there they found the pit bull standing aggressively over Mary Hinson, of Wilmington. Hinson was unconscious and had multiple bite wounds. Officers tased the pit bull, causing it to retreat, giving them the chance to get to Hinson.
EMS transported Hinson to New Hanover Regional Medical Center where she underwent surgery. Police say she is in stable condition.
During the investigation, officers learned Hinson did not have permission to be on the property from the owner, Sherry Spivey, who is currently in jail.
Officers located multiple dogs inside the house, which is in very poor condition. New Hanover County Animal Control took the dogs into custody.
